Manchester United have officially approached the Leicester City defender, and that could be great news for Tottenham fans.

As reported by Sky Sports, Manchester United have officially approached Leicester City over defender Harry Maguire.

The 25-year-old centre-half is apparently coveted by Jose Mourinho, after an excellent showing with England at the World Cup, and a solid campaign with the Foxes throughout 2017/18.

Maguire only transferred to the King Power last summer after getting relegated with Hull City, but his stock has soared since Russia, and the Midlands club now face a big challenge of trying to keep hold of their prized asset over the next couple of weeks, with the Red Devils clamouring for a defensive reinforcement.

The Sky Sports report is not good news for Leicester fans, who might have to expect an approach from a big side after the World Cup, but it is potentially a welcome development for Tottenham, who are fighting to keep Toby Alderweireld.

The Independent claim the Belgian international is still on Manchester United’s radar, but news of a Maguire approach could suggest that he will be left alone.

That said, the power is with Leicester with such little time remaining in the transfer window, and United may yet turn to the former Ajax defender should they feel negotiations aren’t getting anywhere – Sky claim United value him at £65 million. For now though, it’s definitely a positive for Spurs in their quest to keep one of the Premier League’s best defenders.
