Alphonso Davies has finally left MLS but he is not joining Liverpool in the Premier League; instead joining Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Back in October 2016, Canadian newspaper La Province claimed that Liverpool had sent scouts to watch an exciting 15-year-old by the name of Alphonso Davies in action for Vancouver Whitecaps.

At the time, the fresh-faced striker had made 15 first-team appearances for MLS side even before his 16th birthday. As a result, Liverpool were reportedly hoping to beat their bitter North West rivals Manchester United to one of the most promising talents in North American football.

Almost two years on, Liverpool were still keen. According to the Toronto Sun at the start of July, the Reds were still desperate to lure the now 17-year-old to Anfield with his reputation still on the rise.

And, after two years of speculation, Davies is finally on his way to Europe. But it is not good news for Liverpool.

According to Reuters, the Ghana-born wonder kid has joined Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich instead, in a deal which is said to be worth a staggering £20 million. This makes Davies the most expensive player in the history of Major League Soccer.

“Alphonso Davies is a very big talent,” said Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic of Davies, who has signed a contract until 2023 and will move to Bavaria in January.

“At the age of 17, he offers a lot of promise for the future. Alphonso already possesses great ability, which is why a lot of top clubs were keen on him. I’m delighted he’s chosen FC Bayern.”

Blessed with blistering pace and with a Gold Cup Golden Boot under his belt already – the youngest player ever to win the award – could Davies be one that got away for Liverpool?
