Newcastle United, West Ham, Watford and Brighton and Hove Albion are all interested in signing Mexican international Diego Reyes, according to reports.

Newcastle United fans should hold the celebrations for now. Because Diego Reyes is not a Magpie just yet.

Calciomercato had reported on Monday that Newcastle were set to complete the signing of the Mexican international defender in the coming days. The 25-year-old, who has 53 caps for his country, is available on a free after his contract with FC Porto expired.

But it is not that simple.

According to The Express, Newcastle are just one of four Premier League sides that Reyes has held positive talks with over the last few days as the former Espanyol and Real Sociedad man mulls over a move to England.

West Ham United have been linked heavily of late and the Express adds that they too have had talks over a free-agent deal for Reyes. And it is understood that Brighton and Watford have also held discussions with the 2018 Primeira Liga champion set to decide his future this week.

Newcastle have endured another hugely frustrating transfer window with Martin Dubravka and Ki Sung-Yeung their only permanent additions so far. So it will not go down well on Tyneside should Reyes end up posing in the kit of West Ham, Watford or Brighton before the end of the week.

Fortunately, however, the Express adds that Rafa Benitez’s side are frontrunners as things stand.
