According to a report from Turkish newspaper Milliyet, Liverpool have sent club officials out to Istanbul to begin talks with Besiktas over the possibility of signing Croatian World Cup star Domagoj Vida.

The Reds made a £20 million bid for the 29-year-old last week – one that was subsequently rejected by Besiktas, according to Turkish media outlet Fanatik.

The Super Lig outfit expect to receive closer to €30 million (£26.7 million) for Vida, and Milliyet claim that Liverpool are determined to get their man.

The Turkish publication claims that the Merseyside outfit have sent club officials out to Istanbul to begin talks with Besiktas, in an effort to bring the Croatia international to Anfield.

Domagoj Vida of Croatia passes the ball during the Croatia Training Session at the Luzhniki Stadium on July 10, 2018 in Moscow, Russia.

The 29-year-old centre-back seems to be ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League, what with his tenacious, agressive and uncompromising brand of defending.

He would be the ideal partner for Dutch ace Virgil van Dijk, and if Jürgen Klopp does manage to bring him to Anfield, he could turn out to be the signing that takes Liverpool to that elusive next level.
