Liverpool have confirmed that Oxlade-Chamberlain could miss the majority of next season.
The 24-year-old sustained multiple ligament damage during the first leg of the Champions League tie against AS Roma in April, and manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed to the club's official website that the new season for Chamberlain will be mainly about focusing on recovery and rehabilitation.
The England international underwent surgery a week after the injury, and the club and player knew all along that he was likely to miss the whole of next season.
However, Chamberlain requested that the timeframe of the lengthy layoff should not be revealed to the public, in order not to ruin the excitement of their impressive Champions League run.
The former Arsenal man arrived at Anfield last summer for £35million, and hit the ground running at the club, scoring five goals and assisting eight others in 42 appearances across all competitions.
As expected, a lot of Liverpool fans are gutted by the news that Chamberlain will likely miss all of next season, and here is how some of them reacted on Twitter:
This is so very sad.. He was looking so good, fast and strong in the midfield.. The Alisson signing gave me so much of excitement.. This news on Oxlade-Chamberlain gave me equal amount of sadness.. Pls pls pls, get well soon Ox.. Can't wait to see you partnering with Keita..— Parthi V (@parthimv) July 18, 2018
Devastating news this James. The lad knows all fans are behind him and we're all wishing him well in his recovery. He will come back leaner, stronger and more powerful than ever before. YNWA— James (@crlfc74) July 18, 2018

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain did not tell his Liverpool teammates about the true scale of his injury because he did not want to harm their momentum.— - (@AnfieldRd96) July 18, 2018

Oxlade-Chamberlain likely to miss the entirety of the coming season.— Giacomo Palmieri (@OnlyGuacamole) July 18, 2018
Gutted for him - clearly loves playing in a Klopp system and he got better and better as the season went on.
Only hope that this isn't a career-defining injury. #LFC
Wow, the Oxlade Chamberlain news is a bummer. Its going to be down to Adam Lallana to keep fit and fill the void by regaining his best form to provide us with another attacking weapon. #LFC pic.twitter.com/0tPzf5IeOH— Waq (@WaqtinAFool) July 18, 2018
