Celtic may have received a boost in their pursuit of Hibernian’s John McGinn.

According to the Glasgow Evening Times, Hibernian midfielder John McGinn has told the club that he would like to move on to Celtic this summer.

McGinn, 23, has starred for Hibernian ever since his 2015 move from St Mirren, racking up 16 goals and more than 130 appearances for the Edinburgh side.

Now a regular for Scotland with nine caps to his name, McGinn has enjoyed a superb spell at Easter Road, but his time with Neil Lennon’s side may be coming to an end.

McGinn’s contract with Hibs expires next summer, which may just force them to sell now before he moves on for free in 2019, and Celtic have already had two bids rejected this summer.

Now, the Glasgow Evening Times report that McGinn has now told Hibs that he wants to join Celtic this summer, which should be a huge boost to the Bhoys’ hopes of securing a deal.

It’s stated that Celtic have only offered £1.5million and £1.75million for McGInn, whereas Hibs want £4million, but a deal could be done where Celtic pay £2.5million and midfielder Scott Allan heads to Hibs.

Allan spent the second half of last season on loan with Hibs, and a move back to the club he left for Celtic back in 2015 may be ideal for all parties.

With Celtic pursuing another midfielder having sold Stuart Armstrong to Southampton, McGinn is clearly their top target – and his desire to make the move to Celtic Park makes a deal seem almost inevitable at this point.
