According to Sky Sports, Sunderland have returned with a new bid of £600,000 for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke after failing with their first offer.

The Black Cats have been busy attempting to bolster their squad for new manager Jack Ross, with a host of signings already brought in to the Stadium of Light.

Jon McLaughlin, Tom Flanagan, Reece James, Alim Ozturk, Dylan McGeouch and Chris Maguire have all moved to Wearside this summer, and Ross is now pursuing a new striker.

The Northern Echo reported on Sunday that Sunderland had failed with a first bid for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke, but were ready to return with a new offer imminently.

Now, Sky Sports claim that Sunderland have now returned with a bid of £600,000, and Bradford are currently mulling over the offer as they consider letting the forward go.

Wyke, 25, joined Bradford from Carlisle United in January 2017, and has now hit 23 goals in 62 games for the Bantams, including 16 goals in all competitions last season.

A physical, hard-working striker, Wyke was born in Middlesbrough and came up through the Boro ranks, meaning a move to Sunderland would hand him a return to the North East.

As a proven League One striker, Wyke is exactly what Sunderland need right now, and whilst Bradford could still demand more money, Sunderland should continue their pursuit.
