Derby County seemingly must sell first before they can buy.
It has been reported that the Rams must sell first before they can think about buying this summer, a situation which has come about from overspending in their failed attempts to secure promotion to the Premier League.
But so far nobody has come in and tempted Derby with an acceptable offer, though West Bromwich Albion are weighing up a move for the Czech striker with an £11 million bid cited (Express and Star).
In the meantime, Derby have been linked with several young players as they look to freshen up an ageing squad, but their lack of activity has seen the following three reported targets move on elsewhere.
A report in The Sun prior to the summer transfer window linked them with exciting winger Hakeb Adelakun. The 21-year-old recorded five goals and 14 assists in League One last term with Scunthorpe United.
Unfortunately for the Rams, the talented winger has moved on to Bristol City, with the Robins paying a compensation fee only after the player’s contract expired at Scunthorpe.
According to The Sun, Derby boss Frank Lampard was keen on signing 21-year-old versatile player Reece Burke from West Ham United, another player who would have freshened things up at Pride Park.
But again the Rams missed out, with the player instead heading to Hull City in a deal worth £1.5 million.
And the latest player Derby look set to miss out on is Sunderland’s exciting youngster Joel Asoro, with Sky Sports (live transfer blog, July 13th at 16:02pm) claiming the player is heading to Swansea City.
Derby were said to have made a move for him, according to Teamtalk, but with the player undergoing a medical at Swansea ahead of a £2 million move, it’s yet more frustration for the east Midlands club.
