Everton should be wary about Andrea Bertolacci after AC Milan failure

Andrea Bertolacci's spell at Serie A giants AC Milan was a disaster, so he has a big opportunity with Premier League Everton reportedly keen.

Andrea Bertolacci was a player on the rise when he got his big break with AC Milan in the summer of 2015.

After a brilliant season with Genoa, in which the midfielder scored six goals and assisted another eight in Serie A to force his way into the Italy squad, Bertolacci earned a £17 million move to the San Siro.

But that move did not exactly go to plan. Alhough injuries didn’t help, Bertolacci never appeared to be good enough to make the step up to a bona fide powerhouse like Milan. In two seasons with the Rossineri, he started just 30 Serie A games before returning to Genoa on loan last summer.

So, with his reputation having taken a beating and without a single appearance for a very average Italy side in three years, Bertolacci would have a lot to prove should his purported move to Everton come to fruition.

Tuttomercatoweb is reporting that the Toffees are close to sealing a shock swoop for the 27-year-old after talks with his agent, Alessandro Lucci. It is understood that Everton will pay around £5 million, meaning Milan are set to make a £12 million loss.

And the importance of this move will not be lost on Bertolacci. This is his chance to get his career back on track and prove why, just three years ago, he was one of the most impressive Italian players around.

Should he fail again, however, and a player that once promised so much could find himself heading for the scrapheap.
