West Ham are reportedly on the verge of signing Felipe Anderson... is he a player Liverpool should have targeted?
It is a surprisingly low budget move for the Reds, and of the two clubs you would have expected that it would be Liverpool instead of West Ham swooping on Lazio to sign £35 million Felipe Anderson.
Liverpool have of course tied up two big moves already this summer for Naby Keita and Fabinho, but they are still searching for a replacement for Coutinho after his sale to Barcelona.
Nabil Fekir is their top target, but no agreement has been struck with Lyon.
Felipe Anderson would have been a smart alternative option.
The Brazilian scored eight goals and provided 10 assists for Lazio last season and this is a tally which could easily have doubled playing with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.
The 25-year-old's best position is in attacking midfield like Coutinho and a switch to Anfield could have been a winner for all parties.
West Ham are the side being brave and taking a chance on him, and Liverpool may end up regretting not making a move.
