Kemar Roofe doesn’t deserve the criticism he gets from some sections of the Leeds United support so it’s nice to see that a good amount of the Elland Road faithful are putting their trust in the versatile forward ahead of the new Championship campaign.
Versatile, quick and blessed with an eye for goal, Roofe appears a good fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s famed 3-3-3-1 formation on paper. And many fans are expecting the legendary tactician to get the best out of a player who has never really stamped down a place in the XI since his £3 million move from Oxford United in 2016.
Roofe was Leeds’ top scorer last season with 14 goals despite rarely being used in his favoured centre-forward position and it is understood that he is in Bielsa’s plans. The chances of Blackburn Rovers luring the 25-year-old to Ewood Park, then, look slim.
Make no mistake though, this is a big season for Roofe. If Bielsa really plans to make him a key player, Roofe must respond in style or face an uncertain future under a famously ruthless coach.
Can’t believe the stick Roofe gets from some. Top scorer - regularly played out of position.— Mark Williamson (@hedgehoguk84) July 12, 2018
He’s a clever player and will do well in Bielsa’s system
I agree not a key player, but what better squad players are there in the championship? Not many squad players who could bag 14 goals in a season without regularly starting— The Forshaw lufc (@TheJeffrey22) July 12, 2018
Can See him thriving under bielsa, his tactics scream roofe— joel broughton (@joelbroughton) July 12, 2018
Good because I think we should keep him..— Paul (@rissyone) July 12, 2018
I know Roofe divides opinion but I think it would be silly to sell him. Talented player who knows how to find the back of the net and versatile in a few positions. Keep. #LUFC— LUFC HQ (@LUFC_HQ1) July 11, 2018
I think he will only get better under Bielsa, hus versatility, movement and creativity to get in behind will be key. Another season, another Roofe— Richard Miles (@RicardoMiles) July 11, 2018
He's a better player than most realise, especially if played in his favoured role.— Tony Leeds (@TonyLeeds5) July 11, 2018
