According to a report from Turkish-Football, West Ham are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon right-back Cristiano Piccini, but the rumours linking the Italian with a move to the London Stadium make little sense.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini already has Pablo Zabaleta and Ryan Fredericks as right-back options, not forgetting Sam Byram, who is currently being linked with a loan move away from East London.

Piccini, 25, has made 226 career appearances, so he is relatively experienced given his age, but whilst he is an able performer, it is hard to understand why West Ham would need him.

West Ham are crying out for an established centre-forward, and they simply must be focusing all of their attention on rectifying that gap in their squad.

According to Turkish-Football, Sporting value Piccini at £17.5 million, and that would be a lot of money for the Hammers to lay out on strengthening a position where they are already pretty well stocked.
