Nottingham Forest are aiming to sign a new goalkeeper and will reportedly target Benfica's Primeira Liga star Bruno Varela.

Nottingham Forest finally sealed the deal to sign Costel Pantilimon on a permanent basis from Watford recently, after the man-mountain shot-stopper spent the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground.

But Forest’s business will not stop there.

After already landing attacking midfielders Diogo Goncalves and Joao Carvalho, Nottingham Forest have been linked with another Benfica player in 23-year-old goalkeeper Bruno Varela.

Record stated at the start of June that Forest are big fans of Varela, who is understood to be valued at around £13 million. And it seems that the East Midland outfit, who are spending big this summer in an attempt to end their 20-year Premier League exile, are now set to step up their pursuit.

Latest reports provided by Record state that Forest are hoping to seal a deal for Varela next week.

It remains to be seen whether Forest will make the Portuguese U23 ace their new record signing, exceeding the £13 million they paid for Carvalho earlier in the summer.

Varela made 29 Primeira Liga starts for Benfica last season as the Eagles lost their domestic crown to FC Porto. He was also first choice for his country in the 2016 Rio Olympics and even received his first call-up to the senior Portuguese side in March 2017 after Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes was ruled out with injury.
