HITC Sport understands Bury and Chesterfield are chasing Chester striker Archer.

League Two Bury and National League Chesterfield are battling it out to sign highly-rated Chester striker Jordan Archer, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

A number of clubs have been weighing up moves for Archer this summer after catching the eye at National League North side Chester last season.

Archer, who joined Chester from Stourbridge last October, scored four goals in 19 games for the Blues and his performances brought him to the attention of clubs higher up the football pyramid.

The 24-year-old is interested in a move to full-time football and Chester are resigned to losing their prize asset, but only for the right price.

Bury, who suffered relegation from League One last season, are keen to bolster their attacking options as they look to mount a bid for promotion from League Two at the first time of asking next season and Archer has emerged as one of their top targets.

Chesterfield are also in the running for Archer’s signature as Spireites boss Martin Allen wants to bring in a striker who will score the goals to fire them back into the Football League following their relegation from League Two last season.

Archer missed Chester’s midweek friendly with Ramsbottom United with the forward on the verge of a move as Bury and Chesterfield battle for his signature.
