Report: Rangers yet to discuss signing of Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe of Bournemouth poses with the trophy for Carling Premier League Goal of the Month for December 2017 on January 11, 2018 in Bournemouth, England.

Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers have been linked with a sensational move for Jermain Defoe.

Back in May, Jermain Defoe to Rangers was a transfer story that was doing the rounds.

The Scottish Sun reported that new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wanted to bring his former England team-mate to Ibrox in what would have been a sensational transfer for the Gers.

Punters clearly got behind the prospect and the Scottish Premiership side remain as 3/1 favourites to sign the 35-year-old legend, according to Sky Bet.

But the trail went cold for a number of weeks and now a new report has outlined the Glasgow club's stance.

According to The Glasgow Evening Times, bringing Defoe to Rangers has not yet been discussed by the Gers' hierarchy, in spite of the short betting odds on multiple websites, and the speculation.

It was always a very, very long shot, when you consider that Defoe earns in excess of £100,000 per week with Premier League side Bournemouth, according to Spotrac.

One striker who could be joining Gerrard's side, however, is Umar Sadiq and The Scottish Sun reported this past weekend that a loan transfer edged closer to materialising after Roma omitted him from their pre-season tour.
