Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has told De Telegraaf, as translated by Goal.com, that it would be nice if Daley Blind returns to Ajax from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Blind started his professional club football career at Ajax and joined Premier League giants United in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £13.8 million.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has said, as quoted by Sky Sports, that he is interested in signing the 28-year-old, who can operate as a defender or as a midfielder, this summer.

Tottenham defender Alderweireld played with the Netherlands international at Ajax, and the Belgium international has stated that it would be nice if the midfielder returns to the Dutch giants.

Alderweireld told De Telegraaf, as translated by Goal.com: "Daley is a great guy. We did not just play together, but also went to school together.

“He is a proper Amsterdammer. It is nice for both parties involved that he has said he would be open to a return - if it happens.”

Return to Ajax?

Blind is a very good player, but the Dutchman has not exactly been ‘great’ for United over the years.

The versatile Netherlands international star - who earns £75,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com - made just seven appearances in the Premier League last season and 23 in the league during the 2016-17 campaign.

It would make sense for United and Ajax to come to an agreement over Blind, as it is clear that Jose Mourinho’s side can cope well without him.
