Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move for Aston Villa winger Albert Adomah this summer.

Rafael Benitez Manager

A number of Newcastle fans have been commenting on the reports emerging from The Sun on Sunday (08/07; page 60) which suggested that Rafa Benitez could consider a move for Albert Adomah if they are unable to sign Andros Townsend this summer.

Newcastle’s window is yet to really ignite. Martin Dubravka’s loan was turned into a permanent move, but that was at the end of May, while Ki Sung-yueng has also arrived on a free transfer. While the World Cup has been ongoing and probably made negotiations difficult for many other clubs, many of their Premier League rivals have already managed to bring a number of players through the door.

Townsend appears to be one player that Benitez is keen to bring to St James’ Park. The Crystal Palace winger enjoyed a promising spell with the Magpies before leaving in the wake of their relegation, and it appears that a return to Tyneside could potentially be on the cards.

However, Palace want a replacement in place and £20 million coming from the Magpies if they are to sell, according to The Sun on Sunday. And while it remains to be seen if Newcastle are willing to do their part to make a move happen, there is perhaps the slightest hint that Benitez is preparing for the interest to come to nothing.

According to The Sun on Sunday (08/07; page 60), Newcastle plan to switch their attention to Aston Villa winger Adomah if Townsend looks set to stay. And that has prompted plenty of discussion on social media.

Unfortunately for Adomah, the links have attracted a lot of criticism from the Newcastle fans. Adomah enjoyed a superb season with the Villans last time out, but it appears that the majority of the Magpies supporters do not want a deal for the 30-year-old and would rather see Matt Ritchie kept.
