Southampton defender Maya Yoshida has sent a message reflecting on Japan's World Cup efforts after their elimination.
Japan reached the World Cup last 16 and came close to knocking out Belgium.
They led 2-0 in the second half before a Belgium comeback topped off with an injury time winner saw them fall to a 3-2 defeat.
Japan's attacking play won plaudits from pundits and fans alike and Yoshida was impressive defensively until getting swept away by Belgium's late fightback.
Yoshida, 29, made 23 Premier League starts for Southampton last season and his World Cup performances will have impressed Saints manager Mark Hughes.
Yoshida did his country and club proud and fans responded positively to his message on Twitter, praising his performances.
