Everton are the latest club to be linked with Colombian centre-back Yerry Mina following his World Cup heroics, with the Liverpool Echo reporting their interest.

The 23-year-old is also said to be on Liverpool's radar, and it makes for a fascinating summer transfer market ahead with the Merseyside duo set to do battle over his signature.

Barcelona aren't ready to let Mina go having just signed him from Palmeiras in January, but a loan move appears to be on the cards as he is still down the pecking order at Camp Nou, and suitors are understandably keen.

With three (headed) goals in as many World Cup games, the Colombian star has seen his stock rise, and Everton landing such a quality defender, especially ahead of bitter rivals Liverpool, will be a great statement of intent this summer.

Manager Marco Silva and Director of Football Marcel Brands are both looking to strengthen the Toffees for a top-six challenge next season and going forward, and adding a player like Mina will go a long way in making that dream come true.

While his World Cup performances don't tell the full story as he is yet to impress at Barcelona, the future looks very bright for the strong defender who brings a distinctive aerial presence in both boxes.

Everton scored just 44 Premier League goals last term and shipped 58, and they could do with both Mina's attacking and defensive contributions.

Liverpool already have the most expensive defender on the planet in Virgil van Dijk, but will no doubt be boosted by a key addition like the Colombian's, with the aerial prowess and potential partnership of the centre-back duo qualities manager Jurgen Klopp will relish.

However, Everton look ready to try and pull out all the stops to land their man, and pipping the Reds, and other emerging suitors, to Mina's signature will see them make a very huge statement this summer.
