Everton's players are set to train under Marco Silva for the first time later today.

Michael Keane has told Everton’s official website that Harry Maguire had nothing but praise for Marco Silva when he asked about the Portuguese boss recently.

Maguire worked with Silva at Hull City two seasons ago, and Keane’s brother, Will, was also in that squad.

And the Everton defender has been quick to learn as much as he can before returning to pre-season.

“I have heard excellent things about the new manager from people I have spoken to and I am looking forward to working with him.

“My brother said really positive things about him and I spoke to Harry Maguire who really enjoyed playing under him.

“I asked what training is like and how the manager expects you to play as a defender, whether he gives you the freedom to bring the ball out or if he wants you to stay in your position.

“It is just a bit of insight. I am sure he will explain everything on the grass and we will get a clearer picture [of Silva's approach] over the next few weeks. But it is always good to know something in advance.”

Everton are set to undergo their first training session with Silva later today, and Keane will be under pressure to impress.

Keane had a difficult first season at Goodison Park after a £25 million transfer from Burnley last summer, as valued by the Daily Mail.

Keane is now under pressure to improve at Everton this term, with standards expected to be raised under Silva.

The Portuguese boss has made no secret of his desire to push Everton up the Premier League standings, after what was a disappointing campaign last term.

Everton’s first competitive fixture of the season comes against newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers in early August.
