Atletico Madrid striker Kevin Gameiro has been reportedly placed on the transfer list by Diego Simeone as the Spanish giants look to sign Nikola Kalinic from AC Milan - which may prompt Tottenham Hotspur into action.
Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his official website that Atletico are looking to offload the 31-year-old this summer in order to make way for 42-time Croatia international Kalinic.
That could prompt Spurs into signing the former Lorient striker this summer, after missing out on landing the pocket-sized France international in the January transfer window.
The Sun claimed back in the January transfer window that Spurs were monitoring Gameiro's situation at Atletico, after he started only 18 of his 36 league and cup outings last season.
Mauricio Pochettino is likely to be on the lookout for a new striker this summer to act as back-up to Harry Kane, with Fernando Llorente struggling to provide adequate cover.
He only managed five goals - three of which came as a hat-trick against Rochdale - and a return to Spain is reportedly on the cards. Vincent Janssen could also leave on loan once again, with Galatasaray and Fenerbahce reportedly keen.
Tottenham have been long-term admirers of Gameiro since Pochettino took over, and the Frenchman has proved he can be effective from the bench - scoring 11 goals and laying on four assists.
Pochettino needs a super-sub in order to act as Kane's understudy and Gameiro would provide him with excellent cover for the England captain. Atletico's decision to place him on the transfer list could indeed tempt Spurs, then.
