Sunderland have begun to make waves in this summer's transfer window, after Jack Ross's side signed three new players only a few days into their pre-season preparations ahead of the Black Cats' League One campaign.

The Wearsiders are currently away in Portugal preparing for life in the third tier, but that has not stopped them making a trio of signings, including former Manchester United left-back Reece James, Scottish midfielder Dylan McGeouch and Jordan Hunter from Liverpool.

And Sunderland fans were quick to react to the news on social media, with suggestions from Stewart Donald that next term's squad would be brand new coming to fruition.

One of the most exciting signings from the three arrivals is full-back James, who joins the Black Cats on a one-year-deal from last season's League One winners Wigan Athletic.

The 24-year-old made 28 appearances in Wigan's title winning season last campaign and could prove to be a replacement for one of Sunderland's highest earning players in Bryan Oviedo.

James certainly offers the Black Cats an abundance of experience, with the player having played for a range of clubs, including Rotherham United, Carlisle United and current Premier League side Huddersfield Town.

Another exciting addition to 42-year-old Ross's side is 25-year-old McGeouch, who joins the Black Cats as a player who fans will hope can have a major impact in their potential promotion bid next season.

McGeouch joins Sunderland from Scottish side Hibernian, where he made 72 appearances in his three-year-stint at the club.

Like James, McGeouch will be a welcome arrival on Wearside, with the holding midfielder looking to fill the void left by Paddy McNair who joined local rivals Middlesbrough late last month.

The third signing of the day for Sunderland arrived in the shape of 18-year-old Hunter, who joined up with Sunderland's development squad from Liverpool; another suggestion of the rebuilding job currently in progress in a new era on Wearside.
