Leeds United tied up their first signing of the summer this morning as Lewis Baker arrived on loan from Chelsea – and another deal with the Blues could be imminent.
The Whites snapped up playmaker Baker as Marcelo Bielsa's first signing, with the former England Under-21 international brought in to offer more creativity in midfield.
Baker may not be the only arrival from Chelsea though, as eagle-eyed fans spotted Blues goalkeeper Jamal Blackman at Leeds' Thorp Arch training ground on Friday, as reported by HITC, before Sky Sports claimed that there is legitimate interest from the Whites.
Blackman, 24, has come up through the ranks with Chelsea having joined back in 2006, and has spent time out on loan with Middlesbrough, Ostersunds, Wycombe Wanderers and Sheffield United.
The 6ft 6in stopper impressed with the Blades last season, but won't be heading back to Bramall Lane due to Chris Wilder signing Manchester United's Dean Henderson instead this summer.
Blackman is nowhere near the Chelsea first team and could now return to Yorkshire with Leeds, who have been looking for a goalkeeper to become first choice next season.
However, many Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that they feel a deal for Blackman is 'odd', and they would rather keep Bailey Peacock-Farrell in goal next season.
Others hailed Blackman based off his displays for Sheffield United last season, and believe that Leeds will be making a quality signing by bringing him to Elland Road.
Would much prefer, BPF & Blackman fighting it out for number one than, Stockdale. Said it for few years now i know he’s a Leeds fan but I don’t rate, Stockdale & said it when he was at Brighton #lufc— Kirsty Stanley (@stanners_1982) June 30, 2018
Granted I didn't see every Sheff Utd game last season just ones on telly box but the games I did Blackman was outstanding in goal and someone I'd love to sign at #lufc— Danny (@DannyB8z) June 29, 2018
You type in Blackman's name into Sheffield United twitter, and all you'll see is positive thing's written about him. Apparently he collects almost every cross in the box, and is a mountain at 6'6. I'd take him. Good competition for BPF. This & Baker is some good business. #lufc— :) (@Max_LUFC) June 29, 2018
Blackman from Chelsea? Not as good as BPF imo. Odd signing. #lufc— Andy (@VacantFaith81) June 29, 2018
Was impressed everytime i saw Blackman playing for Sheff Utd last season #lufc— Kirby (@paulmarkkirby) June 29, 2018
Not keen on signing Blackman. Training a Chelsea goalie when we have as good a young keeper of our own sat on the bench.— Mike (@LeedsMJ84) June 29, 2018
Just give BPF the jersey and get a backup in #lufc
Blackman was massive for Blades last year. Very hard to beat, stands over 2 metres, good with his feet, would be nice coup IMO #lufc— Marshmello Bielsa (@benphelps17) June 29, 2018
