Rooney has left Everton to join DC United this summer.

Everton icon Wayne Rooney has completed his long-awaited move to the MLS by agreeing a three-and-a-half-year deal with DC United, and Kevin Kilbane has congratulated his former teammate on Twitter.

The 32-year-old has long been linked with a move to DC, who are one of the oldest American clubs after being formed 22 years ago in 1996. They are coached by experienced manager Ben Olsen.

Rooney only joined Everton last summer from Manchester United – returning to Goodison Park after 13 years with Old Trafford – but failed to hit the heights that saw him earn icon status on Merseyside.

The former England captain has now agreed a contract that will see him play for DC until December 2021, and former Toffees teammate Kilbane reacted to the news on Twitter.

Rooney has clocked up 111 appearances in all competitions for Everton throughout his career, breaking onto the scene when scoring a long-range effort as a teenager past Arsenal’s David Seaman.

He went on to score 26 times for The Toffees, 11 of which came this season but was used sparingly by Sam Allardyce and the new-look team of Marco Silva and Marcel Brands have decided he was not needed.
