West Ham co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have been promising supporters the move to the London Stadium would enable them to compete in the transfer market for players of Felipe Anderson's ilk.
But what has turned into something of a transfer saga between West Ham and Lazio for the talented Brazilian might have taken an unexpected twist.
According to reports West Ham representatives took matters into their own hands at the weekend and jetted off to Italy to try and finalise the Anderson deal at around £35 million, as previously reported by HITC.com.
New rumours gathering pace online claim Lazio, not keen to lose Lukaku as well as Anderson, have tried to send flop Ravel Morrison back to West Ham, as reported by The West Ham Way fans' site.
Morrison moved to Italy in 2015 after falling out of favour with the Hammers but has only made four appearances for the Serie A side and has been loaned out to QPR and Mexican side Atlas since.
Morrison enjoyed a meteoric rise at West Ham with his brilliant solo goal against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur cementing his place in Hammers folklore.
Morrison keeps a keen eye on his old club and often wishes them well on social media and fans' forums.
But rumours Lazio wanted to include the 25-year-old in the Anderson deal met with mixed reaction on Twitter.
We don't currently have an attacking midfielder at West Ham United who isn't injured.— ⚒️HammerandTalk⚒️ (@hammerandtalk) June 24, 2018
I don’t get why people wouldn’t have him back. He was brilliant for us, but we tried to force him to change agent, when he said no he was dropped. Would take him back 100%— WHUFC (@IRONSSSS) June 24, 2018
Because he’s done nothing at QPR, Cardiff, Lazio or Atlas since!— Marcus Johns (@Johnsie31) June 24, 2018
Oh dear— James Reading (@JReadingAloud87) June 24, 2018
Just not sure if his time has gone. I loved him, but think there’s too much pressure on next season to gamble on him. If we get top ten maybe get him season after though!— James Reading (@JReadingAloud87) June 24, 2018
I’d have him back to be honest— Ashley Miles (@ashmilesWHUFC) June 24, 2018
Guys a liability and had several chances at bigger clubs but his attitude stinks,he'd destroy changing room harmony.— HappyHammer72 (@h_hammer72) June 24, 2018
Manchester United Ferguson bombed him out because of his attitude! Oh why did we bomb him out? Same reason— HappyHammer72 (@h_hammer72) June 24, 2018
He was ok for us but there’s a reason he ended up in Mexico— robert smith (@darobsta08) June 24, 2018
He was loaned out to Atlas in the Mexican league and played OK , but he isn’t Premier League quality.— Gael Rodriguez (@gael_rdz19) June 24, 2018
Agreed. I'd like Ravel Morrison back tomorrow.— David Moss (@DavidMo75713222) June 24, 2018
