The Portugal international would be an excellent addition to the Tottenham Hotspur squad.

Tottenham ace Mousa Dembele’s future in north London is uncertain to say the least, and if he ends up leaving the club this summer, Mauricio Pochettino will, of course, have to bring in an able bodied replacement for the Belgian.

The problem is that Spurs are refusing to budge on their £30 million valuation of the 30-year-old, and that is proving to be a stumbling block to his exit, with the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus and Napoli all unwilling to stretch to that amount.

With this in mind, the Lilywhites should lower their demands for Dembele, and attempt to sign Portugal international William Carvalho, who is available on a free transfer after terminating his contract with Sporting Lisbon.

That way, Tottenham would still be making a profit, whilst bringing in a truly elite player as a replacement for Dembele at the same time.

Carvalho, 26, is a powerful box-to-box midfielder, and the tenacious manner in which he approaches the game makes him ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.

The Portugal international can also play in the deep-lying midfield role, and his impressive, yet simple ball dispersion would help Spurs to keep the play ticking in the middle of the park.

The opportunity to snap up a player of Carvalho’s quality for free is one that doesn’t come around too often in football, and Tottenham should take full advantage by swooping in for the Portuguese, whilst lowering their demands for Dembele at the same time.
