Barclays has appointed Steven Penketh as chief operating officer for Barclays International, the unit that houses its investment bank and private banking businesses, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Friday.
Reuters reports that the bank has also appointed Steve Ewart as chief financial officer for Barclays Bank, the new legal entity which houses Barclays International following the lender’s split into Barclays International and Barclays UK, the source said.
In the meantime, the news agency also reports that Royal Bank of Canada has hired veteran investment banker Larry Grafstein from UBS to be deputy chairman of global investment banking, people familiar with the matter said on Friday.
Grafstein, who was previously the co-head of mergers and acquisitions in the Americas at UBS, will help build out RBC’s M&A franchise with an eye towards the biggest situations, one of the people said.
Finally, Bloomberg also reports that former Lazard investment banker Ian Woo is joining health care-focused private equity firm C-Bridge Capital.
He will be a managing director at Shanghai-based C-Bridge, according to a statement distributed by Globe Newswire, which confirmed an earlier Bloomberg News report. Woo is also going to join Everest Medicines, a biopharmaceutical company backed by C-Bridge, as president and chief financial officer.
