Tottenham have been linked to West Bromwich Albion defender.
There is not a transfer rumour this summer which has drawn such unified derision from Tottenham fans as ESPN's report that Ahmed Hegazi is a target for the club.
Hegazi was relegated with West Bromwich Albion last season, his first in the Premier League.
He had good games, and showed some promise, but Tottenham have a very high bar, and he would be a totally underwhelming replacement for Toby Alderweireld.
Hegazi's performance for Egypt against Russia at the World Cup last night showed that he is not ready for a move to Tottenham.
The Egyptian struggled to cope with Russian forward Artem Dzyuba as his side lost 3-1, their second defeat in as many games.
The picture (top) of Hegazi pulling the striker's shirt was about as close as he got to him.
Hegazi was caught out of postion, and was nowhere near an open Denis Cheryshev when he stole in to net his goal.
He looked out of place, certainly not international quality, and Premier League scouts will not have been impressed.
His performance then could be a blessing in disguise for Tottenham fans who expressed their unhappiness with the Hegazi rumours last month.
Tottenham would be making a big mistake if they took the cheap option to sign Hegazi and then put him into Champions League action.
As if Premier League relegation was not clue enough, Spurs have no excuses if they choose to sign Hegazi after last night.
