Leeds United are reportedly looking to see off late competition for striker Abel Hernandez.

According to The Mirror (16:02), Leeds United are poised to fend off rival interest in striker Abel Hernandez, with new manager Marcelo Bielsa set to sanction the deal.
The Whites landed Argentinian legend Bielsa as their new boss on Friday, and he will need major reinforcements in order to turn Leeds into a promotion-chasing side.
A new striker is a must, as Pierre-Michel Lasogga has returned to parent club Hamburg, whilst Caleb Ekuban, Jay-Roy Grot and Pawel Cibicki sturggled in their first seasons.

Recently speculation has strongly linked Leeds with a move for Abel Hernandez, and The Mirror now report that Bielsa is ready to sign off on the deal to bring him to Elland Road.
It’s stated that Cardiff City and Cagliari are plotting late moves for the striker, but Leeds are ready to seal his move to West Yorkshire in a major coup.
Hernandez, 27, is out of contract having left Hull City this month, and whilst he missed much of last season with a major knee injury, he did end the season with five goals in his final seven games.

The Uruguayan spent four years with Hull having signed from Palermo in 2014, and left the KCOM Stadium with a record of 39 goals in 111 games – but most importantly for Leeds, 28 goals in 49 Championship outings.
That may make him the proven striker Leeds are looking for, and with Bielsa seemingly happy to make the striker his first signing, this would be a great start to the new era at Elland Road.
