Ajaccio’s Ligue 2 left-back Manuel Cabit is the first player linked with Championship giants Leeds United since Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival.

Amid all the euphoria of Marcelo Bielsa’s arrival as Leeds United’s most highly-paid head coach in history, the first name to be linked with a move to Elland Road since his appointment feels very underwhelming.

The Mirror (live blog, 1.48pm) reports that Leeds are rivalling Montpellier, Lens and Metz for the Ajaccio left-back Manuel Cabit. And, as you might expect, this has not gone down too well among Leeds fans on Twitter.

Supporters, to put it simply, are sick of the unknown imports after being forced to endure Felix Wiedwald, Jay-Roy Grot and Caleb Ekuban last season. And Cabit feels very much like a target from Victor Orta’s playbook.

But fans should not be so quick to judge. Cabit was excellent last season as Ajaccio very nearly earned promotion to Ligue 1, losing to Toulouse in the relegation play-off. And links with the 25-year-old do at least suggest that Leeds are trying to solve their left-back problem.

Ever since Charlie Taylor left for Burnley, Leeds have lacked quality at left-back with Laurens De Bock, Vurnon Anita and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson all failing to make the grade.

But with Bielsa demanding greater control over recruitment, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, there is a good chance Cabit is his target rather than Orta’s.
