Another day, another striker linked with Aitor Karanka’s Nottingham Forest.

The Mirror reported earlier this week that Forest were hoping to re-sign former academy graduate Patrick Bamford from Middlesbrough, while Norwich City’s Nelson Oliveira and Aston Villa’s Lewis Grabban were on the club’s radar.

And the Mirror (live blog, 1.38pm) reports that there is another name in the frame – Ipswich Town’s Martyn Waghorn.

Martyn Waghorn of Ipswich celebrates scoring his sides third goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Millwall and Ipswich Town at The Den on August 15, 2017 in London, England.

It is understood that Karanka wants more firepower at the City Ground and could make a move for the former Sunderland and Rangers striker. Waghorn was a big hit at Ipswich after arriving from Ibrox a year ago, scoring 16 goals and setting up another 13 as the Tractor Boys finished in the Championship’s top half.

The 28-year-old also scored 44 goals in his two seasons at Rangers, locating his shooting boots relatively late in his career after erratic spells in the Championship with Wigan, Millwall, Hull, Leicester and Charlton.

The Mirror adds that Forest could look to sell Daryl Murphy in order to make room for new attacking additions.

The 35-year-old moved to the East Midlands last summer with a reputation as a reliable goal-scorer at this level but managed to hit the net just seven times, his most recent coming all the way back in November.
