Jason Steele is reportedly set to leave Sunderland following their relegation into League One… by joining Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion.

Jason Steele must have some agent.
The Sunderland goalkeeper contributed more than most to The Black Cats’ second successive relegation last season. He, alongside fellow butter-handed shot-stoppers Lee Camp and Robbin Ruiter, cost the club a whole host of points as Sunderland finished bottom of the Championship.
So reports that Steele could be playing Premier League football next season understandably has supporters choking on their morning cornflakes.

According to the Sunderland Echo, the Wearsiders have agreed to sell the former Team GB goalkeeper to Brighton. And Steele is now in talks with the top flight side, where he will act as number two behind Matt Ryan following the release of former Newcastle United star Tim Krul.
But, to put it simply, how has this happened? Steele barely looked like a Championship level goalkeeper at times last season, his embarrassing red card for handling the ball outside his area against QPR in the spring rather summing up the uncertainty of his performances in a Sunderland shirt.

The Stadium of Light faithful, however, are not complaining. Steele’s impending exit will give the club some much needed cash to invest in new signings, among whom should be a goalkeeper who doesn’t treat the ball with quite so much suspicion.
