Everton have reason to feel envious of Leicester City’s transfer business so far this summer.

Leicester have already confirmed the signing of Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion on a bargain £3 million deal, and they are now closing in on snapping up James Maddison from Norwich City.

Everton had been linked with both Evans (Daily Mirror) and Maddison (Guardian) in recent weeks, but Leicester are set to win the battle for the pair.

And Everton could be made to regret not pushing harder for either of their targets, if they go on to have a successful season at Leicester.

Evans may not have been a particularly exciting addition to Everton’s team, but he could have been an upgrade on any of their current central defensive options.

For just £3 million, he looks to be one of the bargain buys of the summer.

Maddison, meanwhile, could turn into star for Leicester in future years, if he goes on to fulfil his potential.

The youngster was in wonderful form in the Championship last season with Norwich City, and he regularly tore defences apart.

Maddison could have significantly improved Everton’s attacking options, and could have been an ideal option for Marco Silva to call upon.

But Everton could now be forced to watch on enviously, with Leicester completing some excellent early business this summer.
