Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the 25-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool-linked Abdoulaye Doucoure delivered a pretty clear come-get-me plea to Jurgen Klopp earlier this year.

Speaking to Canal Plus in March, the Watford midfielder said it was his "dream" to play for Liverpool, but Tottenham must be the more likely destination now.

The Reds have already signed Fabinho and with the imminent arrival of Naby Keita, Jurgen Klopp probably won't spend another £40 million [The Mirror] on bringing the French powerhouse to Anfield.

It would be rather nonsensical and therefore Tottenham, if they are interested, should now press ahead with trying to sign the Hornets star.

He might have favoured a move to Merseyside, but that doesn't mean he would sniff at the chance to join Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs side, especially given that the Argentine manager might need someone of Doucoure's ilk in the near future amid doubts about Mousa Dembele's future in North London.

The 25-year-old could be very much needed at the Lilywhites and although Pochettino could face competition from Everton, the promise of Champions League football might be enough to swing it for them.
