'Sign him this instant': Derby fans react to Jack Marriott links

Peterborough United director Barry Fry has suggested that Derby County could beat Championship rivals Nottingham Forest to Jack Marriott.

Matej Vydra of Derby scores the first goal during the Sky Bet Championship match between Derby County and Nottingham Forest at iPro Stadium on October 15, 2017 in Derby, England.

Matej Vydra is seemingly on his way out of Derby County this summer; the Telegraph reporting that the £8 million record-signing could be sold with the Rams looking to slash the budget.

But replacing him could be Frank Lampard’s biggest task so far. Vydra was Derby’s star man last season after all, firing 21 goals to win the Championship Golden Boot and a place in the Team of the Season.

Derby fans, however, seem more than happy with suggestions that Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott could arrive at Pride Park in place of the influential Czech striker.

Jack Marriott of Peterborough United tangles with Adrien Silva of Leicester City during the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Roundat ABAX Stadium on January 27, 2018 in Peterborough, England.

Marriott, who scored 33 goals in all competitions last season, has been linked with a number of clubs in the second tier, not to mention Celtic and Rangers. The 23-year-old had looked to be heading towards Nottingham Forest but, according to Peterborough’s director of football Barry Fry, bitter rivals Derby have suddenly emerged as a more likely destination.

“Jack does want to join Nottingham Forest but Derby’s interest is recent and I would say they have a better chance of making us the right sort of offer," Fry told the Peterborough Telegraph, with Marriott understood to be valued at around £6 million.

And it seems that the prospect of Marriott going to Derby would go down very well with the Pride Park faithful, and not just because it would leave Forest fans very frustrated.
