Leeds United were expected to confirm Bielsa's appointment imminently.
Spain's decision to sack Julen Lopetegui on the eve of Russia 2018 has sparked panic among Leeds United supporters.
But given the 62-year-old's vast experience at international level - having managed Argentine and Chile at World Cup finals - some Whites fans fear he could be approached by the Spanish FA (RFEF).
This is what they are saying on Twitter...
It would be the most Leeds thing ever if we agreed a deal with Bielsa and just before he signed he got poached to coach Spain at the World Cup.— Andrew Haigh ⚡️ (@AndrewHaigh) 13 June 2018
Everyone laughing at Spain, just remember we are Leeds United, if the past is anything to go by they'll make an 11th hr bid for Bielsa— Meefloaf (@Meefloaf) 13 June 2018
Now that Spain are managerless for the World Cup. Imagine if they go and sweep Bielsa from under our feet— Dawson (@lalaladawson) 13 June 2018
#lufc about to announce Bielsa and Spain hit self destruct just to upstage us.— Jonathan Saville (@sav1lle) 13 June 2018
Won't be funny laughing at Spain when they put Bielsa in as new coach— Shaun Harveys Sock Drawer (@V6Unbelievable) 13 June 2018
It has however been speculated that Spain will turn to Lopetegui's assistants Albert Celades and Fernando Hierro to lead them in Russia.
Luis Rubiales, the RFEF president, has vowed to alter things 'as little as possible' within the camp, ahead of Spain's opener against Portugal on Friday.
Incidentally, Hierro, the former Real Madrid and Bolton Wanderers midfielder, has often featured among the bookies contenders to be Leeds' manager in recent years.
Should Leeds fans fear an approach from Spain?
