If Leeds United fans were hoping that John Egan could be seen as an upgrade on Liam Cooper or even Pontus Jansson, now is the time to look away.
But if the reaction from the Griffin Park faithful is anything to go by, maybe Leeds should steer clear. It seems that Egan, despite being a regular starter and wearing the armband, is far from a fans’ favourite.
The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international started 32 Championship games last season as The Bees finished in the top half after a brief flirtation with the play-offs.
But, with Ezri Konsa arriving from Charlton Athletic and the much coveted Chris Mepham waiting in the wings, Egan’s position could be about to come under threat.
So if Leeds do step up their interest in the one-time Sunderland youngster, it would be interesting to see whether Brentford would be willing to cash in on their skipper. But, in truth, Egan is at best a solid second tier defender and, if Leeds want to push on towards the top six, they probably need to be aiming higher.
Kyle Bartley anyone?
Not a fan of Egan at all. It’s ridiculous that he’s captain when he shouldn’t even be in our 1st XI— “Me love you long time” (@JimboUpNorth) June 12, 2018
As much as I like Egan, if we can get £2.5/3m for him I’d get rid. Meps and Bjelland are a better pair and Barbet is on a par, in my opinion https://t.co/vFY4HAOXYc— Le Bâtard (@Bastard_Bee) June 12, 2018
Yea of they offered 3m and a sell on i would say accept it.— Ryan Freeland (@freelander97) June 12, 2018
I'm not an Egan fan either— St Jason of London (@SaintTheJase) June 12, 2018
Weakest of our centre halves for me. Doubt he would have played so many games if he wasn’t captain.— Ali Mullaley (@alimullaley) June 13, 2018
He is a bit dodgy no doubt, when we first got him he was well good though.— noah (@NoahBFC) June 12, 2018
Your window is going to be veryyyy interesting indeed - can't wait to see the incomings and outgoings, is Orta still doing the transfers?
