Report: Fenerbahce offer Martin Skrtel to Rangers in Alfredo Morelos swap move

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

If Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are still interested in bringing Martin Skrtel to Ibrox, Steven Gerrard has been given the perfect chance.

Fenerbahce are still interested in signing Alfredo Morelos and they might have a trump card to tempt Rangers into a sale.

According to Turkish publication Yeniakit, Fener will travel to Glasgow this week in order to open negotiations with the Ibrox giants about a potential deal for the Colombian striker. And, in a dramatic twist, it is understood that they are willing to offer Martin Skrtel plus cash in a bid to bring Morelos to Istanbul.

Now this is interesting. The Daily Record reported that Rangers manager Steven Gerrard had made signing Skrtel, his former Liverpool team-mate, one of his top priorities this summer.

The chances of the 33-year-old Slovakian moving to Rangers appeared to be over however when his agent said that Rangers could not afford the defender’s wage demands. But could the deal be back on after all?

It is understood that Fenerbahce want to get Skrtel off their wage bill. And therefore sending him to Scotland in an exchange with Morelos would kill two birds with one stone.

It remains to be seen, however, how Rangers view this potential swap deal. The Scottish Premiership giants refused to sell Morelos even for £9 million in the winter with a number of Chinese clubs interested but his reputation took a battering from there on as he scored just one goal in his last 10 games of the season.

But with Nikola Katic signed and Connor Goldson set to follow, do Rangers really need Skrtel anymore?
