According to a report from the Sunderland Echo, Torino's move for Sunderland's Gabonese midfielder Didier Ndong has fallen through, after the player and the Italian Club were reportedly unable to reach an agreement on personal terms.

Only last week Sunderland had said to have accepted a bid for Ndong believed to be in the region of £6.6m, but now the deal for the Black Cats flop looks to be over.

New Sunderland manager Jack Ross will be keen to find a buyer for the player, with the 23-year-old being one of a few players with particularly high wages for a League One side going through a transitional phase.

Ndong linked up with Sunderland in 2016 and has had a below average stint on Wearside, making 49 appearances and scoring just one goal away to Crystal Palace, when the Black Cats were all but relegated from the Premier League.

The former Lorient man was Sunderland's record signing two years ago, when he signed for a fee of £13.5m - but the Gabonese player moved to Watford in the second half of last season - where he didn't manage to make a start for the Hornets.

And despite a dismal couple of years in England, Ndong is still attracting attention from clubs across Europe.

Sunderland's new owner Stewart Donald made it clear when he took over only a few weeks ago that players currently at the club who didn't want to play for the shirt certainly wouldn't be here ahead of the Black Cats' vital League One campaign next term.

And it wouldn't be wrong of fans to assume that Ndong, as well as others, fall into that category of taking Sunderland for granted.

Therefore despite his deal to Torino seemingly off the cards, former St Mirren boss Ross alongside Donald will be keen to move on Sunderland's record signing in a deal which will suit all parties.
