Wolves should consider Jon Flanagan in pursuit of new right-back

Wolverhampton Wanderers are allegedly looking for a new right-back this term and the soon to be released Liverpool man could be the answer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to bolster their defensive options with a new right-back this summer and are reportedly courting AC Milan veteran Ignazio Abate, according to Gazza Mercato.

Nuno Espirito Santo is eyeing a deal for the 31-year-old full-back, who has a single year remaining on his contract at the San Siro, but there is perhaps a better option to strengthen the position at Molineux next term.

Jon Flanagan's Liverpool career is now over, with his last appearance coming in September, and a release this summer, while Nuno could offer him a place at Wolves.

The 25-year-old was once touted as a future star on Merseyside, but injury issues saw the defender resigned to making just 51 appearances for the club, and there is no way back under Jurgen Klopp.

A loan move with Bolton has seen the Englishman regain some match-fitness but there is no doubt he has further levels to hit, given the immense promise he showed in his breakthrough season in 2010/11.

Nuno would perhaps be best advised to move for a player with longevity left in his career, matching Wolves' aspirations of a lengthy stay in England's top flight, as opposed to bringing in someone for an immediate fix.
