According to reports, Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the Barcelona left-back.

According to a report from Spanish media outlet Don Balon, Barcelona are lining up a summer swoop for Chelsea star Marcos Alonso, and if the Spaniard does move to La Liga, it could do Liverpool a favour if they wish to rekindle their interest in Lucas Digne.

The Reds were interested in signing the Frenchman last summer, according to Sky Sports, but they eventually opted to bring Andrew Robertson to the club, and despite the Scot’s fine performances last season, more competition in left-back department is required at Anfield.

Don Balon claim that Barca have identified Chelsea’s Alonso as one of their key summer transfer targets, and if the left-back does move to the Camp Nou, Digne’s future with the Spanish giants would look bleak.

Good signing for Liverpool?

The 24-year-old is a fine defender, and he is at the age where he will soon be entering his prime years.

He has plenty of experience in playing at the very highest level with Barcelona, Roma and Paris Saint-Germain, and he would provide excellent competition for Robertson in the left-back department at Liverpool.

Digne is technically gifted for a defender, and he also possesses an impressive positional sense.

The France international would bring much quality to Liverpool, and if he is available this summer, Jürgen Klopp should not hesitate to bring him to Anfield.
