According to a report in the Daily Mirror, West Ham United are interested in signing Issa Diop from Toulouse this summer and if he does join then Manuel Pellegrini could have one of the best, young defensive pairings in Europe.

Declan Rice has already proven that he is capable of playing regularly at centre-back for West Ham, despite only being 18.

And if Diop also arrives at the London Stadium, then the youngster would be an impressive addition to their side.

Diop has featured regularly in Ligue 1 over the last term, and he has never looked out of place.

Despite being only 21-years-old, Diop has been physically commanding and a robust defender throughout the season.

Diop’s form has reportedly attracted the attentions of Barcelona, which shows just how highly is regarded, and if West Ham did sign him then he would have to be considered an exciting addition.

Pellegrini would have to put his faith in youth, to feature both Diop and Rice in the same team.

But if the Chilean manager was willing to take a gamble, then West Ham could put in place their central defensive pairing for the years ahead this summer.
