Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is getting a bit of a hard time on Twitter.

The USA international helped his country to a 1-1 draw away to France on Saturday night.

Carter-Vickers and co were heading toward a shock victory over the World Cup-bound French, with Julian Green netting a 44th-minute opener.

However, Didier Deschamps's side levelled up with 12 minutes to go through Kylian Mbappe, and the Tottenham centre-back, unfortunately, was partially to blame.

The Paris Saint-Germain star swept home Benjamin Pavard's cut-back pass, with the 20-year-old Spurs man slipping in his attempts to intercept possession.

Up until that point, Carter-Vickers, who had loan spells with Sheffield United and Ipswich Town in the Championship last season, was enjoying a good game, but USA fans on Twitter have directed some post-match criticism toward him following the error.

Prior to the game, Carter-Vickers was in the news amid reports from The Telegraph that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is willing to let him and Josh Onomah join Aston Villa on loan next season as a sweetener in the proposed move for Jack Grealish.

Despite the apparent mistake last night, Carter-Vickers is still only 20 and remains a very promising young defender, evident by how solid he was for 78 minutes, so loaning him out is probably the better move from Spurs' perspective.
