Steve McClaren needs defensive reinforcements and Patrick Bauer and Naby Sarr would fit the bill for Queens Park Rangers.

Queens Park Rangers will be keen to bolster their defensive numbers this summer after the departures of captain Nedum Onouha and James Perch. The west Londoner's are beginning to look light at the back and Jack Robinson is expected to follow the pair out of the exit door as his contract runs down.

With that in mind, Steve McClaren's side shipped a whooping 70 goals last term and it is apparent that defence is the no.1 area that needs improving for the new campaign.

Funds will be tight in W12 and it is likely Rangers will look to the loan market or cast their eye in the lower leagues to secure some much needed reinforcements. Charlton Athletic missed out on promotion to the Championship via the play-off's last month and McClaren should certainly consider testing the Addicks' resolve with the crop of talent on display at the Valley.

Patrick Bauer is perhaps one of League One's finest defenders and, with the German centre-back going into the last year of his contract, a suitable bid could be manufactured to benefit both clubs. Keith Peacock's side will likely rebuff any demand but the lure of Championship football and staying in the capital may swing it from Bauer's perspective.

Naby Sarr is another player who could certainly fit in well at Loftus Road. The 6'5" defender has not featured as much as he would like to for Charlton and a move might be on the cards.

Although he still has two years to run on his contract in south London, a viable bid could see the former France youth player move to QPR and a potential link-up with McClaren could see Sarr revitalise his career.

Nonetheless, the former Newcastle boss will need to prove very shrewd in the transfer market as QPR begin to reshuffle their pack over the coming months and the Charlton duo could prove beneficial.
