Anton Walkes is reportedly leaving Tottenham to join Portsmouth.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly agreed a deal that will see academy product Anton Walkes join League One side Portsmouth on a permanent basis – and some fans have reacted have vented their frustration on Twitter.

Walkes, 21, was loaned to Portsmouth in January after the versatile right-back failed to make an impact across the pond on loan with MLS side Atalanta United.

He made 12 appearances for Pompey on the right side of defence, but has shown with Spurs’ academy that he can play at centre-back and even in holding midfield if required.

Walkes is said to have a year remaining on his Spurs contract after signing a new two-year deal in September 2017, while on loan with Atalanta. But with first-team football seemingly out of sight, it seems as though a move could be on the cards.

Portsmouth News claim Kenny Jackett’s side have agreed a deal with Spurs over a permanent deal for Walkes, who picked up a hamstring injury during a 3-3 draw with Rochdale and saw him miss out on the last five games.

A handful of Tottenham fans have reacted with anger to the news that Walkes is set to leave, which sees another young player leave the club already this summer after Keanan Bennetts joined Borussia Monchengladbach.

But some believe it was time for Walkes to move on, with one fan claiming “not a big loss”.
