Rangers manager Steven Gerrard played with Lucas Leiva at Liverpool, and there is no surprise that the Lazio defensive midfielder has been linked with the Ibrox club.

According to a report in The Scottish Sun last month, Rangers manager Gerrard wants to bring Lucas to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.

The 31-year-old has been on the books of Lazio since the summer of 2017 when he joined from Premier League club Liverpool for a transfer fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £5 million.

The Brazil international has established himself as an important player for Lazio, and the defensive midfielder would be a stunning and blockbuster signing for Rangers this summer.

However, Lucas - who made 35 starts in Serie A this past season, according to WhoScored - has suggested on social networking site Twitter that he will remain at Lazio next season.

As his following post on Twitter suggests, Lucas wants to stay at Lazio, meaning that Rangers will have to accept that he will not move to Ibrox in the summer transfer window.
