Southampton fans react as goalkeeper linked with shock exit.
Southampton fans are split over a potential sale of star goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
Southampton have had to fend off bids for their star players each of the last three years and fans hoped this year would be different.
They are under no pressure to sell McCarthy, but the club’s supporters have been through this situation before and understand it would be to their detriment to keep an unhappy player.

At the moment McCarthy seems happy to stay put, after winning the starting spot from Fraser Forster and impressing new manager Mark Hughes.
Even so, £30 million is a lot of money for a player who began last season on the bench, and Southampton have managed to replace more integral players before.
If anything the move could backfire on McCarthy, who would only be joining Spurs to be a back-up.
Staying at the Saints may well be in his best interests, at least for next season.
Here is a look at how Southampton fans reacted to the reports…
All these McCarthy leaving rumours just smells like the agent trying to get him a new contract. As if he’s gonna happily go to a bigger club to be 2nd keeper again after finally getting his chance #SaintsFC

If we get £30m for McCarthy. It’s daylight robbery from any team willing to pay it. £30m would sign Butland & Heaton! Or, Quincy Promes #SaintsFC

If the reports are true that we’re selling Targett and McCarthy then we’re mental. McCarthy kept us up last year and why send Targett on loan if we’re going to sell him when he does well. I’d understand if he didn’t impress but he’s shown he’s up to it #SaintsFC

30 mil. Honestly I get very leery of players that come out of nowhere to be good, so well at high value

I don’t think he’ll leave to be 2nd choice somewhere else and confined to a few cup games, but if he wants to leave we should sell. The VVD fiasco shows what happens when you keep a player who wants to go. The keeper is too important to have doubts over.
