Report explains why West Ham-linked Ryan Fredericks’ leaving Fulham

West Ham United are reportedly in talks over a deal to sign Ryan Fredericks when his Fulham contract expires.

According to a report from Football London, Ryan Fredericks is set to leave Fulham and sign a deal to join West Ham as the Cottagers were not willing to meet his demand to become the highest-paid player in the Premier League newbies’ squad.

The right-back enjoyed a stunning season in the Championship, providing seven assists as Slavisa Jokanovic’s men secured promotion to the top flight in the play-off final. However, there has been a question mark lingering over the defender’s future for a number of months.

Football London reports that Fredericks’ deal at Craven Cottage is set to expire imminently. And while Fulham fans may have hoped that promotion would boost the club’s chances of agreeing fresh terms with the 25-year-old, the report suggests that he is looking set to move to West Ham, with Sky Sports also suggesting that talks are taking place.

And Football London is now suggesting that they understand the reason for Fredericks’ imminent departure to be that Fulham are not prepared to make him the club’s highest-paid player – though they add that Fulham have not confirmed that that is the case.

Fredericks was superb this past season so certainly had a case to ask for a deal that would be one of the most lucrative at the club, but whether he deserved the best contract is debatable, given that there are also players such as Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon in the ranks.

If he does end up swapping Fulham for West Ham, he will certainly be hoping that the Hammers are able to enjoy the kind of campaign next year that vindicates his decision to jump ship ahead of what looks set to be an exciting period for Jokanovic’s men.
