United States left back Antonee Robinson starred against Bolivia.
The Premier League season is over and it's full steam ahead towards the World Cup, with international teams in action – even the ones who won't be in Russia this summer.
The United States failed to qualify for the World Cup in spectacular fashion, resulting in manager Bruce Arena losing his job, leaving Dave Sarachan to take interim charge.
On Monday, the US were in action against Bolivia in Pennsylvania, in what proved to be a thumping win for the Stars and Stripes against their South American counterparts.
Walker Zimmerman, Josh Sargent and Timothy Weah all got on the scoresheet for a youthful US side, which also featured 19-year-old Weston McKinnie, 20-year-old Matthew Olosunde and 21-year-old Erik Palmer-Brown.
Another youngster featured as Antonee Robinson started at left back in his international debut, playing 90 minutes as he helped the US keep a clean sheet in Monday's friendly.
Fans took to Twitter to praise Robinson for his pace, attacking prowess and defensive play, claiming he served a 'dominant performance' whilst suggesting that he should the the United States' left back of the future after such an impressive debut.
Finally watching the #USMNT friendly with Bolivia...Sargent and Weah are impressive as expected, Robinson showing promising flashes...— Dennis Black & Asian (@DennisBlkAndAsn) May 30, 2018
Watched USMNT late last night. Not much to say (Bolivia was terrible) but still so many reasons to be hopeful for the future, Robinson being the latest to really show that the skill is there. And I love McKennie in that role. Way more skilled than what we've tried there in past.— George Dohrmann (@georgedohrmann) May 29, 2018
In his first international start, Antonee Robinson was my man of the match against Bolivia. Here are his stats:— Future USMNT (@FutureUsmnt) May 29, 2018
80.6% Passing Accuracy
4 Key Passes
1 Clean Sheet
Was excellent defensively and offensively the entire night. A dominant performance pic.twitter.com/INb39OLOad
Robinson and Olosunde in the back, #USMNT is set back there for 10 years.— RQ (@RoryplaysGolf) May 29, 2018
Robinson was a really pleasant surprise to watch in person. His energy was great. And it was fun to watch a US team with a real left back for once. I want to see a lot more of Robinson, and pretty much everyone else too. #USMNT https://t.co/DzCPHejBmR— Matt Lichtenstadter (@MattsMusings1) May 29, 2018
Antonee Robinson just jumped into my top 5 favorite left backs also just saying #USMNT— Young Leg (@shopaaj) May 29, 2018
Antonee Robinson created 4 chances on his debut. Something that's only been done by 3 #USMNT players in the last 3 years (Bradley x6, Dempsey x2, Altidore x2).— TJ Heaps (@tjheaps) May 29, 2018
Antonee Robinson was Man of the Match in #USAvBOL: 1 assist, 4 chances created, 28/35 (80%) passing, 4/6 dribbles, 11 recoveries, 6 interceptions, 4 tackles, 3 interceptions. Good crossing, gets into attack well, fast, great work rate up and down. #USMNT finally have a left back. pic.twitter.com/HewDWZATGX— Jason Foster (@JogaBonito_USA) May 29, 2018
Some talented youngsters out there for the USMNT tonight. Antonee Robinson looked very good at LB.— conor quinn (@conorquinn75) May 29, 2018
Antonee Robinson just might be the future of the #USMNT at left back. I know it was just Bolivia. But I want to see him in the next few friendlies. I liked what I saw a lot today.— mike. (@mikeaspillane) May 29, 2018
That was a fun USMNT game. Evertonian Antonee Robinson savior for both USMNT and Everton? I think so!— Rudy Salazar (@NotThatRudy) May 29, 2018
You know who’s really, really good? Antonee Robinson. #USMNT— Andrew N. Wegmann (@Metzgurdlin) May 29, 2018
3) Antonee Robinson. Damn - we may have found a left back. I'd like to see him in a race with Yedlin. The kid played some D too, something our LBs have had issues with. If he's not in the mix in fall the new coach should be fired. #USAvBOL #usmnt— Arp Laszlo (@thisisarp) May 29, 2018
Not only could Robinson be the left back of the future for his country, but his display may just help him at club level too. Everton are in desperate need of a young left back to eventually succeed Leighton Baines, and talented youngster Robinson may just give the Toffees belief that their future left back is under their nose after all.
