Rangers loanee Russell Martin has confirmed he will be leaving Ibrox and returning to Norwich City this summer on Instagram after failing to earn a permanent deal with the Light Blues.

The 32-year-old defender joined the club on loan until the end of the season in one of four loan signings made by Graeme Murty in the January transfer window, alongside Jason Cummings, Jamie Murphy and Sean Goss.

Only Murphy has been confirmed as joining the club on a permanent basis, while Goss has returned to Championship side QPR. Cummings’ future at Ibrox is yet to be decided.

Martin thanked everyone at Rangers for his short time in Glasgow on his personal Instagram account, bidding farewell to the Scottish giants which will see him return to east Anglia.

During his short spell at Rangers, Martin clocked up 17 league and cup appearances but he struggled to develop the kind of consistency expected of him at Ibrox.

A number of performances saw fans question his long-term future at the club, most notably his display in the 5-3 win over Hamilton which saw the former Peterborough and Wycombe defender at fault for two goals.

Now, he is set to return to Norwich but is way down the pecking order under Daniel Farke and a move away from Carrow Road is likely to take place this summer. He has a year left to run on his current Norwich contract.
